The NOHRC committee is excited to announce that Connie Dieken will be the 2017 luncheon keynote speaker! Connie is a thought leader in the field of modern leadership influence and presence. She’s the founder of The Dieken Group, a senior executive coaching, consulting and training firm that transforms leaders into purposeful influencers. Her insights are often featured in leading publications including The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, CEO.com, and Investor’s Business Daily.
Prior to launching her firm in 2000, she spent 20 years as a television journalist, earning five Emmy Awards, two Telly Awards, and induction into the Radio/Television Broadcaster’s Hall of Fame.
The National Association of Women Business Owners selected Connie as one of its Top 10 Female Business Owners, Speakers.com named her one of America’s Top 10 business speakers, and she was recently named a Top Global Guru of senior executive coaching.
We are looking forward to her presentation, Talk Less, Say More:
The Influence Illusion: How to Unleash the Influential Presence You’re Meant to Be
Gaining true influence is one of the greatest challenges facing leaders today. Connie’s message challenges the myth that power equals influence. She will discuss the crucial distinction between power, influence, and persuasion. Influence is the key driver of sustainable leadership and is deeply rooted in connection, clarity, and commitment. Often people attempt to use their position as power and spend their time persuading others to make one-off decisions, which is short-term, inefficient, and squanders leadership capital.
Connie will present a powerful approach to deepen any leaders’ lasting influence involving three core habits that she uncovered during 16 years of guiding C-suite executives to successfully grow their organizations – Connect-Convey-Convince. © Connie will share relatable, often humorous, examples of how and when to use each one:
Habit 1: Connect – to engage, align, and resonate with shared values
Habit 2: Convey – to clarify information, increase certainty, and reduce doubt
Habit 3: Convince – to activate, empower, and gain specific commitment

For 49 years, NOHRC has been one of the premier events hosted by the Cleveland Society of Human Resource Management (CSHRM). The Cleveland SHRM Foundation is proud to partner with Prayers from Maria as our 2014-2015 Non-Profit Partner. You might recognize them by the mile long field of sunflowers on I-90. Ed and Megan McNamara and friends planted the sunflowers for their daughter, Maria, who died on July 14, 2007, of a rare brain cancer. The Avon Lake couple started their group, prayersfrommaria.org, in their child’s honor because when the 7-year-old was hospitalized for her deadly cancer, she told her parents she was praying for the other children in the hospital. The idea behind this organization is “planting hope for children with brain tumors”. The flowers represent all the children out there with cancer, and by looking at the flowers it represents that there is always hope. The sunflower is a symbol of their daughter’s charity.
